epersonae: Mug labeled Moon's Best Director (Default)
Just posted my first blog post on my regular site for the first time since January 2016. Where I linked here, lol. So I'm double-checking all my privacy settings on my posts and sort of adjusting my comfort level, while thinking about what all I want to write about last weekend. (XOXO Fest)

(I feel like I'm forgetting something? Important? So if there's something you know I've talked about that's not here, lmk.)

Actively working on/want to work on soon

  • inoculation via kiss (AU where it turns out Magnus was inoculated way back when Lucretia was, but she didn't realize it until the forgetting), got inspired to work on this again recently and I'd love to get far enough to really feel the shape of the whole thing; there's so many moving parts
  • Twins post-reckoning (that conversation all the commenters said needed to happen? I think it's almost done)
  • Moon postscript (Magnus visits the moon sometime after reckoning, feels a little stuck rn tho)
  • Reckoning epilogue, the beach vacation (just getting started, this is gonna be a big one)
  • Follow-up(s) to Take a Bite, what Kath and I have been referring to as "the dramaz", because stuff happens afterwards

On hold collab stuff

  • Astral vacation (which I excerpted last spring for TAZ poly week, takes place after Lucretia and Magnus have both died, waiting at least until reckoning and the various epilogues were done)
  • noir coffeeshop (unfinished modern AU)

We're also talking about some slice-of-life writing feat. Kenneth joining the BoB, just vague concepts at this point.

Stalled/Someday

(I also have a prompt from Micah that I'm trying to figure out the right Maurcretia concept for.)

  • Fantasy fast, fantasy furious (Sloane/Hurley as a beat-for-beat retelling of The Fast and The Furious)
  • It's a polyblaster candlenights to me (modern Hallmark Christmas AU romance bullshit)
  • Yoga with Professor Merle
  • someone else's plan (Lucretia POV angst about the years from the Arcaneum to the Forgetting, aka Elaine Processes Stuff)
  • Plein Air (Regency/Victorian AU julesmagcretia)
  • Alpaca Heaven AU (shared universe post-canon where Lucretia just bolts to go live in the country and raise alpacas, I posted a secret Santa fic in that universe)
  • Lup's Nine (what really happened before the Nashville liveshow)
  • chalice retrieval AU (where Magnus takes the chalice and Lucretia and the boys have to fix it)
  • Maureen makes a deal (Maureen as the spokesperson for Legion)
  • Pocket boys adventure (the infinite bag of boys survives the chimera)
  • some kind of rope bondage prequel to Untied, Undone
  • apartment on the moon part 2 (the smutty bits following the fic I actually posted; there's a similar fragment for the asleep-in-the-library fic)

So I've started something new in the last couple of months: I'm writing poetry again. Which is partially because Kath took a poetry workshop at school and was sending me her stuff, and partially because all of this is sort of beyond prose or even journaling. And then Mary Oliver died.

So......Mary Oliver was hugely formative to me as a babby poet in college; American Primitive was one of the readings in the intro level poetry writing class, and her work hit me like a thunderbolt. And then I found out we have the same birthday (same as the early 20th C poet HD, by the way, which is a lovely coincidence that I savor deeply).

I stopped writing poetry in the mid-2000s, I think, along with the rest of my writing, probably even sooner than prose, tbh. (I was in a writers group with folks who wrote prose fiction but not poetry at all, which made a big difference.) But even before Kath started sharing her work with me, Mary Oliver came back into my life, when Emi shared the classic Wild Geese, and then last year when Kath and I were looking for a title for our series, I happened to be searching for Wild Geese, and found it on a page with a bunch of her other poems, including The Journey, which ends with the line we used: the only life you could save. And it felt true to the story we were telling, and at the same time just resonated as deep as anything I've read in years.

So when she died, I decided to both break out my copy of A Poetry Handbook, which I bought years ago and never used, and to just go into nature and wander and write. Last night I went back to Tacoma (where I lived 1992-2000) and today I went out to Point Defiance, and this happened, and I'm pretty happy with it. I think I'm going to start sharing some of my poetry here, partially to get into the practice of regular blog posting, partially to get into the habit of putting my poetry out into the world, partially to push myself to write more.

Updates to my last listing.....
  • "vehicle proficiency for ladies" is done, published as It's not hard to fall (note: E-rated)
  • I definitely am not going to finish the hallmark christmas AU, at least not anytime soon, it was just too ambitious for an idea that only happened in mid-December!
  • strip poker is almost done, stg... Although it appears to have spawned something much more than I expected; either a splinter continuity, or the lost middle section of tolycs. lots and lots of dramaz.
  • did some writing on the moon postscript to reckoning, but it needs a major rework to mesh with Kath's latest installment (also E-rated)
Plus I'm actually starting to have a hankering to work on Fantasy Fast, Fantasy Furious, after all this time; F&F is on Netflix, which makes it extra tempting.

Because I'm stuck on actual writing rn, here's the current list.... (FWIW, if there's anything that sounds especially interesting, lmk. I'm absolutely susceptible to persuasion when it comes to writing ideas.)

Active

  • Vehicle proficiency for ladies (you know that one Magvi where they do it in a cannonball? that, but Maurcretia)
  • Magcretia/Blupjeans dinner date (aka "the strip poker fic", a follow-up to the post-karaoke fic)
  • it's a polyblaster candlenights to me (modern Hallmark Christmas AU romance bullshit, we'll see if I can get it done before the holidays are over)

On hold (collab stuff, mostly, waiting for Kath to survive the end of the semester)

  • Twins post-reckoning (that conversation all the commenters said needed to happen? we started it and got stuck)
  • Moon postscript (Magnus visits the moon sometime after reckoning)
  • Astral vacation (which I excerpted back in the spring for TAZ poly week, takes place after Lucretia and Magnus have both died, waiting at least until reckoning and the various epilogues were done)
  • noir coffeeshop (unfinished modern AU)

Plus there will be a beach vacation epilogue to reckoning but we haven't really done anything with it yet. We're also talking about some slice-of-life writing feat. Kenneth joining the BoB, just vague concepts at this point.

Stalled/Someday

  • Yoga with Professor Merle
  • inoculation via kiss (AU where it turns out Magnus was inoculated way back when Lucretia was, but she didn't realize it until the forgetting)
  • someone else's plan (Lucretia POV angst about the years from the Arcaneum to the Forgetting, aka Elaine Processes Stuff)
  • Plein Air (Regency/Victorian AU julesmagcretia)
  • Alpaca Heaven AU (shared universe post-canon where Lucretia just bolts to go live in the country and raise alpacas, I posted a secret Santa fic in that universe last week)
  • Fantasy fast, fantasy furious (Sloane/Hurley as a beat-for-beat retelling of The Fast and The Furious)
  • some kind of rope bondage prequel to Untied, Undone
  • apartment on the moon part 2 (the smutty bits following the fic I actually posted; there's a similar fragment for the asleep-in-the-library fic)

Plus a bunch of fragments, ideas, single lines that I haven't done anything with, etc.

ok, fine, old technology, but figuring out how to do the cut thing: mildly confusing, thanks.

This was saved in my docs as “Kenneth what’s the frequency” and bonus points to anyone who knows that reference without looking it up. When we realized that we had an actually significant OC, I felt like I needed to write a little something to just figure out what all was going on with that. His voice in the final work ended up a little different as @polyblaster and I got a better feel for him, but this was where it started. (Spoilers if you haven’t read The Reckoning Arrives yet!)

read it! )

Yeah, I guess this is a thing. If folks migrate this way, I guess I'm already prepared? I don't even remember what blogging is like, tbh: I used to write on my actual honest-to-fucking-god website, but it's been years since I've posted pretty much anything.
So I guess if you've found this, then uhhhhhh, yeah. Hi. Epersonae everywhere in the known universe. Lately, writer of The Adventure Zone fanfiction. Longer ago, writer of essays about webdev and assorted topics. Longer before that, internet gadabout.
Is this where the meta goes? Is fandom going to reinvent RSS Readers so we can make our own dashboards? (And thus combine the good image site (which is what exactly?) with the good fic site with the good meta site with the good meme-ifying site. Or something.)

not that I know what to say or anything. just that the whole Ello buzz reminded me that this is a thing that at least seems to do the privacy/identity things right. (plus lots of avatars!)

I guess it's like LiveJournal, but run by a community? Trying out after thinking about it for a long time, prompted by Skud's post on Google+ & pseudonyms. Supposedly has all of LJ's access control features, which I never much got into. (Although I think some of it made it over into Vox, which I really liked, and which I miss as far as private posting.)
